How to Adjust Aperture on the DJI Osmo Action 6 ๐Ÿ“ธ

The DJI Osmo Action 6 isn’t just a standard action camera; it features a powerful Variable Aperture system that sets it apart from the competition! Instead of being stuck with a single fixed lens setting, you now have total control over your depth of field and how the camera handles light. โ˜€๏ธ

Finding the Hidden Menu ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

If you are looking at the main screen and wondering where this setting is hiding, check the middle on the right-hand side. You will see an icon depicting two lines with dots on them (located just above the current aperture value). Tapping this opens up a dedicated menu where you can toggle between Variable Aperture modes. It gives you a few different options on the left side, allowing you to switch between a Fixed setup, the unique Starburst mode, or fully Auto ranges.

To access the Variable Aperture menu, simply tap the icon with the two lines and dots, located on the middle right-hand side of the screen just above the current F-stop value.

Exploring the Aperture Options โš™๏ธ

Once you have the menu open, you can see the different modes available on the left side of the screen. In the video, I toggle through the options so you can see exactly what is available:

  • Fixed: This locks the camera at F2.8.
  • Starburst: This switches the camera to F4.
  • Auto: This allows for variable aperture ranges.

The menu also displays the specific minimum focus distances for these settings right on the screen (35cm for Fixed vs. 20cm for Starburst), so you can see the technical specs as you make your selection.

The Best of Both Worlds โš–๏ธ

If you aren’t sure which specific number to lock in, the Auto / Variable settings are a lifesaver. You can set specific rangesโ€”like F2โ€“F4 or F2.2โ€“F4โ€”and let the camera automatically adjust on the fly based on your environment.
