Phase 1: Download the Required Apps
Before you begin, ensure you have the necessary software installed from the Google Play Store:
- Chipolo App: This is used for initial setup and managing specific hardware features.
- Google Find My Device (Find Hub): This allows you to track your Chipolo POP using Google’s massive network of Android devices.
Phase 2: Sign-In and Permissions
Once the apps are installed, open the Chipolo app. You will need to sign in (using your email or Google account) and grant several permissions for the tracker to work correctly:
- Nearby Devices: Required to find the tracker via Bluetooth.
- Notifications: To receive alerts if you leave an item behind.
- Location Access: Must be set to “Allow all the time” so the app can find your tracker even when the app isn’t open.
- Physical Activity: This helps the app provide more accurate out-of-range alerts.
Phase 3: Pairing with Google Find My Device
The pairing process is straightforward:
- In the Chipolo app, tap “Add a new Chipolo” and select Chipolo POP.
- Press the center of your Chipolo POP tracker twice.
- The app will recognize the tracker and prompt you to connect it to the Find My Device network.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the integration.
Exploring the Settings
After the setup is complete, you can find several useful features within the Chipolo app:
- Out-of-Range Alerts: Toggle this on to get a notification on your phone if you walk away from your keys or bag.
- Call Your Phone: You can double-tap your Chipolo POP to make your misplaced phone ring.
- Change Ringtone: Customize the sound your tracker makes; options include “Pixel dance,” “La Cucaracha,” and even seasonal tunes like “Jingle Bells”.
- Take a Selfie: Use the tracker as a remote shutter button for your phone’s camera.
