How to Turn Off the Login Password on Mac

July 9, 2026July 9, 2026northernvikingexplorer

Want your Mac to sign in automatically when it starts up? If you’re the only person using your computer, you can enable automatic login so you don’t have to enter your password every time you turn on your Mac.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to turn off the login password by enabling automatic login in macOS.

What You Will Learn

  • 🔐 How to turn off the login password on your Mac
  • ⚙️ Where to find the Users & Groups settings
  • 👤 How to enable Automatically log in as for your account
  • 🔑 Why you’ll be asked to enter your password during setup
  • ✅ How automatic login works after it’s enabled

Start by opening System Settings from the Apple menu.

Next, scroll down the left side of the settings window and select Users & Groups.

Near the bottom of the window, locate Automatically log in as, which is set to Off by default.

Select the drop-down menu and choose your user account.

Select your user account under Automatically log in as to enable automatic login on your Mac.

After selecting your account, macOS will ask you to enter your login password. Enter your password when prompted, then select Unlock. You’ll be asked to enter your password one more time before selecting OK.

Once you’ve completed these steps, your Mac will automatically sign in whenever it starts up, so you won’t need to enter your password each time.

Note: Automatic login is best suited for Macs used by a single person in a secure location. If your Mac contains sensitive information or is shared with others, keeping password protection enabled is generally the safer choice.
